Past Events/Campouts
Enjoy reading about some of the campouts we have been on in the past year. Geocaching Event On October 18, the Scouts went down to Burnsville to do some geocaching! They found three caches in the "Cache to Eagle" series as a requirement for Geocaching Merit Badge. Even though it was dark, everyone had lots of fun while earning a requirement. October 2011 This year, the Scouts went to Carver Park Reserve in Victoria. They made an orienteering course for a younger scout, launched soda bottles with air pressure launchers, did some radio "fox-hunting," and found a geocache as well. It was an amazing campout.
Many Point 2011 With Sea Base the week before, the troop had a pretty small crowd at Many Point this year. However, this didn't stop the Scouts from having a great time! They partook in all the usual camp activiites, and earned some merit badges too! Two scouts even did a river rafting high adventure down the Otter Tail River.
Sea Base The troop had the adventure of a lifetime in July 2011. Eight scouts and several adults attended the Bahamas Sea Base program. Flying from MInneapolis to Fort Lauderdale, they then took small 9-passenger planes to Marsh Harbor on Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas. They spent their week onboard a Gulstar 53' sailboat owned by Captain Simon Crowley. They sailed around the Sea of Abaco, stopping on the different islands such as Elbow Cay and Great Guana Cay. The scouts also got to snorkel several times, including around coral reefs and over a wreck. All in all, this was an incredible adventure that everyone loved.
May 2011 For this trip, the troop went to Sakatah Lake State Park, and biked on the Sakatah Singing Hills trail. All the Scouts went at least 25 miles, and some even went 50! Even though it was a little rainy, all the Scouts had a great time! April 2011 We went to Baker Park Reserve for this campout, and in the morning worked on merit badges and advancement requirements, and in the afternoon enjoyed finding some geocaches for Geocaching Merit Badge. In the evening we had our Spring Court of Honor. We had a good campout! February 2011 On this campout, we went to Kiwanis Scout Camp along the St. Croix River. We went rocket launching, sledding, enjoyed our traditional hot tub in the snow, and worked on Space Exploration Merit Badge. Everyone had a fun time. January 2011 We went to another special activity this January, a program called NorthWind at Stearns Scout Camp. We put on heavy duty winter clothes provided by the camp, and spent a day outside in the subzero weather learning about winter survival, including having lunch outside in the cold. All the Scouts had a unique experience that they will certainly remember. October 2010 For this camout, the scouts went to a special camporee put on by Three Rivers district. We learned about CSI and sucessfully solved a murder mystery, earning requirements for Crime Prevention Merit Badge along the way. All had an interesting time, even in the rain.
