Many Point Scout Camp

Philmont Scout Ranch

Boy Scouts of America Troop 473

 • About

BSA Troop 473 is a member of the Northern Star Council and meets at St. Michael's Lutheran  Church in Bloomington, Minnesota. Meetings are held on most Monday nights throughout the school  year.

 • Creating Good Leaders

Creating good leaders is an important part of scouting. Many different leadership positions are  available and positions are required for rank advancement. Elections are held every six months to fill the  key leadership positions in the troop and many other positions are available through appointment or  application. Our troop takes pride in the seventy-two scouts that have earned the rank of eagle while in  our troop.

 • Enjoying the Outdoors

Camping is an essential part of our troop's activities. Weekend campouts are held most months during  the school year and a week long trip to Many Point Scout Camp is held during the summer. Our  campouts are organized by the Patrol Leader Council consisting of a few scouts in leadership positions  and the Scoutmaster. Set-up, cooking, and take-down are all led and run by scouts. One of the most  popular and unique campouts we do is our yearly dog sledding adventure at a professional dogsledder's  property near Duluth. Scouts have the opportunity to step into a different world as they meet, take care  of, and harness the dogs as well as mushing them along the trails in and around the property. Other  campouts feature different activities like exploring and sleeping in caves, hiking, biking, model rocket  launching, district wide camporees, exploring the bluffs of the St. Croix., and much more.

Our week long summer campout is held at Many Point Scout Camp located along beautiful Many Point  Lake in northern Minnesota. Food is served at a dining hall and the camp has a full staff which counsel  merit badges and run activities. Many merit badges are offered during the morning and during the  afternoon and evening scouts can do unique activities like rifle and shotgun shooting, climbing, sailing,  high adventures, boating, fishing, swimming, and more.

High Adventure Camps for scouts ages 14 and older are Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico,  Seabase Scout Camp in the Bahamas and Florida, and the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota.  Our troop usually has trips going to at least one of these places yearly.

 • Sponsoring Organization
